Samantha Betia – Corporate Practitioner Sustainability Leadership Awardee

Senior Public Relations and Sustainability Specialist, Metro Pacific Water

Samantha’s foray into sustainability began in college when she conducted site visits and volunteer work in NGOs — advocating for environment and resource protection, education, and women empowerment. Since then, she has become an active supporter of these NGOs and, in the process decided to kick start her career in corporate sustainability by choosing to work in a company that she believes contributes to achieving UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Currently, as the Senior Public Relations and Sustainability Specialist at Metro Pacific Water — a water infrastructure investments firm in the Philippines under the MVP Group of Companies, Samantha firmly believes in a multi-sectoral and efficient stakeholder approach in further developing a sustainable and climate-resilient country. The corporate setting has never been a hindrance to her pursuit of promoting sustainability, as she continues practicing purposeful work by supporting communities and contributing to nation-building at the same time.

Through her role, she was able to create and implement impactful community-centric programs that address water, sanitation, and hygiene (W.A.S.H.). Beyond these programs, Samantha also connects stakeholders across different sectors and agencies, sparking conversations and collaborations in the realm of sustainability. All these fell within the company’s goal of providing water and sanitation coverage for communities who need it – a goal that Samantha is aligned with.

Samantha envisions a Philippines where:

... one where citizens experience inclusive growth through the equal distribution of resources that will strengthen the country’s overall development in terms of economic standing, governance, health, well-being, and environmental resource management – thus, contributing to shared prosperity.

To achieve a sustainable country — leaders, politicians, various agencies, key business personalities, and youth must work hand in hand. Samantha, look up to those sustainability leaders who continue to advocate sustainable development goals in the Philippines because she believed that to achieve it we need a collective team effort.

It doesn’t matter which industry you belong to because being a catalyst for positive change can be achieved through your dedication and commitment to sustainability

As in her case, she has shown that it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are from, so long as you stick by your beliefs, practice purposeful work, and collaborate across different sectors, you, yourself can contribute to our nation’s growth — one step at a time.
