Uratex’s Step into Sustainability

The Sustainability Team of the Uratex Group of Companies launched the pilot episode of their SustainabiliTalk webinar series together with SustainablePH. SustainabiliTalk is a part of their Sustainability Programs this 2022 that aims to increase sustainability awareness, and have a meaningful conversation among their key decision-makers to have a genuine interest as they transition into a more sustainable business.

To help them kickstart their sustainability journey, Josh Torres — from SustainablePH — conducted a 1-hour Climate Change and Sustainability Talk tailored fit to their objectives. Josh is a sustainability professional with four years of experience in advising institutions in the private sector. He brings in an international focus on carbon accounting, ESG insights, sustainable supply chains, and project management.

In the webinar, he discusses Climate Change and why it matters for businesses, what is being done in both national and international aspects, and what can be done as a leader. At the end of the orientation, their leaders asked questions and shared action steps to incorporate climate change considerations in their department strategy and day-to-day operations.

As Lili Tumlod, their Sustainability Executive believes,

Addressing environmental problems requires behavior change from all of us and there is no better place to start than from within our company. The first phase."

Attended by their supervisors and managers across the organization, this is a first for the Uratex as they learn more about sustainability knowledge and practices. The opening remarks from their Managing Director, Ms. Peachy Medina presented a challenge to everyone who attended the webinar to incorporate sustainability as part of their goal.

“I would like to thank the organizer for sponsoring such a important webinar. Also thanks to Josh for accepting our invitation and help raise awareness on sustainability among our leaders.

In business, profits are necessary in addition in our organization we have long understood that businesses must serve a social purpose and so we understand that we are to provide comfort, better sleep and improve lives for all the people that we touch. While we have known that our business serves a social purpose, what we are not so aware of are its cause to our environment.

Our vision talks about the shared journey and hopes for shared success
among the different stakeholders such us, our customer, our employees. Our communities and our country. The list of stakeholders must and will now include the environment. Climate Change is real and urgent! It takes a catastrophe like the recent devastation from typhoon Odette, to remind us how pressing the matter is. That is why this awareness webinar is important.

After this webinar, it is my hope that our company ‘Sustainability’ will not just be a buzzword but truly part of our goals. We will have raise awareness on the problem, learn about the different solutions and we will now elevated our sense of urgency and each of us will now feel empowered that we can do something as a company and individual. So let us take sustainability out of the world of ideas and put it at the heart of our goals, processes analysis, and decision
making.

We do have to balanced the sustainability with our many other goals, it is not easy but the balancing act is not new to our culture. Confronting the brutal facts and being driven to the state of restlessness is also not new to us. We can take the bad news that will be delivered today and relish the challenge and the opportunity to do better, so let’s now begin our journey!

Thank you very much!” – Ms. Peachy Medina’s Opening Remarks

Climate change is a reality that is happening now, and we can see its impact across the world. Working in a company that works toward the preservation of the planet and the improvement of people's lives is quite fulfilling. It may be a small initiative for now but I believe moving forward, it will ripple to everyone in our organization and will create a big impact." - Lili Tumlod
